Hip to Slip

Dress: Forever 21, Slip: Gifted, Shoes: Gianni Bini
I had a two day break from work, so I went home to celebrate a belated father's day and an early birthday for my sister. We a great dinner followed by this outfit shot mom offered to do.

I loved this lightweight dress the minute I saw it online. It's a little sheer, so I paired it with a long slip underneath. Some people don't feel like a slip should show, but I think it's a great opportunity to add an interesting and girlie detail. I let a little lace show at the bottom to make the ensemble more feminine. Want to incorporate a slip into your outfit? Try pairing a colored slip with a sheer dress or a black slip under a white lace dress. Experiment and see what works for you!

True Blood

I am so excited for season 4 of True Blood to begin. The premiere episode is just around the corner! I can't wait. I am such a sucker for any story/ television show/ movie that is fantasy based. In honor of the upcoming event, I decided to star the shows main character in my blog post. Her name is Anna Paquin and she is fabulous. I took the liberty of digging up some of her previous photoshoots for you. Enjoy...

Missing NYC...

One of my favorite places I got to visit while I was interning in NYC was Betsey Johnson's apartment. Yes, her actual apartment! I was lucky enough by able to go after work one afternoon. The reason isn't glamorous, but who cares. I got to go and that was all that mattered to me! Who would turn down that kind of opportunity!

I was entrusted to take Lucy home. Lucy is Betsey's dog and loyal companion. Lucy and I got on the subway and headed to Columbus Circle. Now I can't reveal an address (and honestly I couldn't remember if I tried), but it's not that far from there. Once I reached the building, Lucy and I got on a tiny elevator that would make anyone claustrophobic. Standing room for one only. Once we reached the top floor, I went inside and got to experience the loft-like apartment pictured above.

It was magical moment I will never forget. It was so bright, fun, and inspirational. She mixed modern with vintage and installed some completely unexpected pieces. (i.e. - The lawn chair in place of a chaise lounge and an extremely low bed!) It completely reflected the same vibe as her showroom. I think Betsey has a wonderful design approach to her home and office. She makes it totally her, interesting, and beautiful. I believe it keeps her motivated and inspired to continue striving to be the best designer possible.

I love the O-Twins style. They are so creative in the way they assemble their outfits. Even if I don't necessarily like what they wear on a daily basis, they make me think outside the box. They inspire me to go outside my comfort zone and try something new. I admire how the girls can take a basic everyday item and completely refresh it with layers of unexpected accessories. The result is a one-of-a kind style that girls all over the country try to emulate (including myself). They keep it fresh and different. Two words for two twins: Absolutely Amazing!

Birthdays in June

<span class=
<span class=

Dress: Forever 21, Shoes: Forever 21, Hair Clips (Shoe Clips): Forever 21, Choker: Vintage, Necklaces: Forever 21

Meet Crystal June! This weekend was her birthday and we started the celebration with a small pre-dinner photoshoot to captivate what I think of as a "Marilyn Moment". She looks super cute in her pleated sundress and vintage accessories! I love the shoe clips as well. It is a really inventive way to dress up a simple shoe.

Dinner guests pictured above: Crystal June, Blythe, Me, Reid, and Colton

The photoshoot was followed by dinner at Crabby's! It was so much fun and the food was delicious! We took a few fun photos I wanted to share, which included Blythe's super cute accessories! She popped her dark brown dress with bright green accessories and pink nails. I love the color combo. It was the perfect way to brighten up her outfit! I'm taking mental notes for later! The best inspiration comes from the people and places around me.

Rompin Around

Romper: Forever 21, Shoes: Gianni Bini, Watch: Betsey Johnson, Bracelets: Gifted

Loving rompers for the summer? Me too! This backless number caught my attention and it was love at first sight! He is daytime in the front and evening in the back! I love pieces that grab you with elements of surprise. It's the unexpected that makes a plan article of clothing an exceptional one. Pair statement pieces with other simple elements that won't be distracting. It will help keep focus on the most interesting part of your ensemble. (P.S.-sorry for the half-shut eyes and the semi-mean looks. It was super bright that day and I was making funny faces.)

Things Making Me Happy...

<span class=

Pedicures!
I finally got to go get a much needed pedicure this week. My poor feet needed it so bad. They were so "jankie". (That's a technical term meaning messed up.) I got to go with my boyfriend's sister Amy, which made it even better. I found a copy of "The Knot" magazine and got a great foot massage. I was happy as a clam.

Family Reunions!
I got to go to my boyfriend's family reunion this weekend. It was great to meet all of them! I really enjoyed learning about the Dobbs' family history and watching the family video! Loved tin-can hair rollers, the huge beehive updos, and daisy duke shorts for men!
(Great trends for then, but let's not revisit them anytime soon!... Although, if the power goes out that tin-can thing might be useful.)

Getting to Celebrate My Dad's Birthday!
Candles and beer will most definitely be present! I can't wait to see my family. I get homesick if I don't visit often enough. I always try to make it back to Oklahoma for special occasions, and I can't think of a better reason than this! I love you Dad! See you soon!

Birthday Cake!
Um... I'm a sweets freak. This is going to be me tomorrow after the candles are blown out. Long nap to follow. Perfect Sunday.

4) The Chloe Wrap

I am loving the L Space swimwear line for summer. My sister just got "The Dolly" and I am obsessed with it. It comes in multiple colors and it is gorgeous in person. (I'm not gonna lie - I tried it on for size when she wasn't home...sorry sister! I love you!) I'm also crazy about the fringe-front because it's so fun and flirty. I want to do a shoulder shimmy just thinking about it.

I am also loving "The Show Off". How sassy is that? It's a little sexy for me, but I love the look of it. You definitely have to be confident to wear this one! The crisscross detail makes it really interesting and gives it an overall powerful look. If you want to give off an I'm the boss attitude, this monokini is for you!

Loving Ollipop...

Vintage accessories are always on my radar. The best places to find unique pieces others won't have are at local boutiques like Mae's (in Fayetteville) and antique shops. My mom and I recently went on a shopping trip in Tulsa and came across a gold mine! Unfortunately I didn't pay attention to the name of the antique store. (I honestly didn't think I would find anything in there. We were looking for vases...) To my surprise, in booth number three, I came across several gorgeous pieces I had to take home! Mom graciously bought some amazing earrings for me and I got two beautiful rings. Pics to come!

After work I did a little online browsing and came across these babies shown above! These are vintage inspired pieces by Ollipop. My eyes lit up when I saw them! If you don't have the time or patience to find a vintage piece, these are right at your fingertips. Just click the link above and it will take you to shopruche.com so you can get some reasonably priced Ollipop for yourself!

Boho Girl

Photobucket

Photobucket

Dress: Cache; Vest: BCBG; Necklace and Sunnies: Forever 21.

I love this dress. I've had it for a couple of seasons now and I can't get enough. It's a perfect dress for a summer party outside and the subtle train make me feel a little like Nichole Richie. (I adore her style. She is definitely the ultimate bohemian girl!) It's so versatile because you can dress it up or down depending on your mood. I like to pair it with my jean vest and turquoise jewelry most of the time. It's my way of making it more everyday so I can get the most wear out of it during the brief summer months. Like this look? Let me know. I can't wait to hear your feedback.

Jacket, Top, and Shoes: Forever 21; Skirt: Fossil

Meet my sister Jessie! No were not twins, but people do say their is a resemblance. She most graciously volunteered to model for me on her day off from classes. I think she is more excited for me to get this blog going than I am. Jessie collaborated with me to create this really "sassy" outfit as she called it. To be honest, after I put all the pieces together I wasn't sure if the stripes, polka-dots, and tutu skirt were too much. My sister quickly assured me it was great and insisted that it wasn't going to be changed for our sister photo shoot. Let me know what you think! (Check out my Bio page and you can see the picture she took of me that day.)

Tribal Remix!

Need a new way to make a statement? Try a tribal print. This is a fun way to incorporate bold prints and bright colors to create a truly unique ensemble all your own. It's also a great way to revive an animal print top you love to wear. Just pair your neutral top with vivid tribal accessories to give your outfit a pop of color (see my way below). Or do the opposite and pair a colorful print with neutral bottoms and/or accessories.

Top: Forever 21, Sunnies: Forever 21, Necklace: Forever 21, Pants: BCBGeneration, Shoes: Forever 21

Overwhelmed by trying a patterned garment? Scale it down. Pairing your favorite monochromatic dress with a tribal patterned shoe, handbag, or statement necklace is a excellent way revamp an old favorite into a contemporary outfit all your friends will be lusting over.

I did a little shopping for you...
